Stars, Planets, and Aliens, OH MY!
Aww, summer! Time for vacations to the beach, the lake, and SPACE! We here at the Moniteau County Library, have been working tirelessly to take your kids on a trip into the Great Unknown for this year’s Summer Reading Program entitled “A Universe of Stories” to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the moon landing.
We have eight weeks of fun themes that we are going to explore, such as aliens, rockets, and even Star Wars! Library staff will be providing programs to several different groups in the county. We will once again be bringing programs to Jamestown and High Point summer schools as well as doing programs in Latham. Last year, California Elementary brought the second grade summer school class to the library for programs. This year we are adding first, third, and fifth grade summer school classes!
For each program that your child attends, they will earn $1.00 ticket. Every time students check out books, they earn a $0.50 ticket. They also get tickets for the amount that they read (PreK-1st grade $0.25/book; 2nd-4th grade $0.25/every 15 minutes read; 5th-8th grade $0.50/every 50 pages read).
Now, you might be thinking, “What do we do with all these tickets?” The last week of July is going to be our Prize Plaza! The prize plaza consists of, you guessed it, all types of prizes! Last summer, we cashed in $1,200 worth of tickets in the first 4 hours, because our prizes were so good that everyone wanted them! We had Bluetooth speakers, slime, backpacks, giant frisbees, mini skateboards, water guns, and more!
We are going to have a registration kick-off party Thursday May 16th from 4-7 pm to sign up! We will also have a few games and a photo booth available to take fun pictures with your friends and family! If you are unable to come on Thursday evening, that is fine. You can sign up anytime afterwards to begin earning tickets.
We hope that you will join us this summer for another great Summer Reading Program! Be sure to follow our adventure here on the website.
